中学２年生のときに初めて聴いて歌った思い出の歌です。

時代は、高松宮杯全日本中学校英語弁論大会の東京大会に広島県代表として出場した時に遡ります。昭和60年代でした。

弁論大会期間中の数日間、英語を外国語として勉強する全国から集まってきた中学生の仲間たちと当時文京区本郷にあった老舗の旅館で宿泊を共にして「中学生会議」という名のもと語り合い、まるで合宿のように過ごした青春の思い出です。

その時に毎晩皆で旅館の大広間で歌ったのが「なごり雪」でした。

弁論大会終了後、全国各地に戻り今まで通りの中学生生活に戻っても東京の中学生会議で出会った仲間たちと文通仲間として友情を深めながら、共通の目標であった英語コミュニケーション能力の習得や国際交流について将来の夢を語り合いました。

当時の雰囲気を思い出しながらピアノを弾いてみました。

This beautiful love song is called “Nagori-yuki” (なごり雪), which translates to “lingering snow”—the gentle snowfall that arrives in late winter or early spring. Originally released in March 1974 by the Japanese folk band Kaguyahime, it became one of the most beloved songs of its era in Japan.

I first heard this song years later, when I was in junior high school, attending a national student convention in Tokyo. The organizers chose “Nagori-yuki” as the theme song for the event, and we sang it together each night during the three-day gathering.

Every time I hear it, I’m transported back to those special moments - full of hope, ambition, and the wide-eyed wonder of my early teenage years.
