Description
Though different Miller versions of the song are commonly available via the band’s two 1942 recordings (the popular commercial single featuring Ray Eberle, and the "Orchestra Wives" soundtrack version with Eberle, Pat Friday, and some nice Johnny Best trumpet work), it was actually this earlier lesser-known and slightly brighter-tempo’d version that was recorded first, produced back in the spring of 1941 for inclusion in the soundtrack of Miller's upcoming film "Sun Valley Serenade." Although the John Payne-Pat Friday* vocal portion of this track was cut from the movie's final release print, the earlier instrumental passage remained. "At Last" can also be heard as part of the instrumental medley of tunes played during Sonja's "black ice" skating sequence toward the end of the film.
This complete version of the 1941 "At Last" track was first issued by RCA Victor in 1954 as part of a ten-inch LP of songs from "Sun Valley Serenade."
Recorded in March or April 1941. First official U.S. issue on RCA Victor LPT-3064: Music from the Original Sound Track 20th Century-Fox Film Production "Sun Valley Serenade." .
