Description
Secret Love (Webster-Fain) by Doris Day, orchestra conducted by Ray Heindorf
This Oscar-winning tune from Day’s “Calamity Jane” was a multi-week #1 hit on the national sales and juke box charts. See also “If I Give My Heart To You,” her other top-5 hit in 1954.
As with Judy Garland’s (also-posted) Columbia single “The Man That Got Away” from “A Star Is Born,” we have here the uncommon occurrence of a popular disc hit that had been snipped directly from the audio recorded for a motion picture soundtrack rather than produced by a record company specifically for commercial release. Doris’ follow-up single to “Secret Love,” also a soundtrack recording, was “I Speak To The Stars” and is included in this collection.
THE 1954 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs that made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1954 (some were recorded in 1953). .
