Description
The nine-member, multi-award-winning band ADG7 (pronounced Ak Dan Gwang Chil) has one foot in the world of tradition and the other in glitzy, upbeat pop. The charismatic and ultra fashionably dressed trio of frontwomen is backed by six instrumentalists who play traditional Korean instruments masterfully. ADG7's rich repertoire is inspired by Korea's sacred, shamanic ritual music (gut) and folk songs (minyo) of Hwanghae province in the northern reaches of the peninsula.
ADG7 came into being in 2015, the year Korea commemorated the 70th anniversary of its national liberation. By reshaping shared Korean cultural roots, ADG7 expresses the true meaning of liberation and the desire for unification. The group has won multiple awards, including Best Group at the 2018 KBS Korean Traditional Music Award and the Sori Frontier Award at the 2017 Jeonju International Sori Festival. ADG7 gave showcase concerts at WOMEX 2019 and at globalFEST 2020. ADG7 performed at WOMAD, Roskilde Festival and San Jose Jazz Festival, among others.
ADG7's powerful performance immerses audiences in the positive energy of traditional music in a modern style. Their performances are outrageously theatrical, raw and danceable. Don't miss these sound sensations, which The New York Times calls "catchy, bouncy and brash!"
