Alberto Secondo Gallo (1989):
Asymmetrical Dances - Vol. II, Op. 11
1. Rondò
Giovanile Orchestra di Fiati di Ripatransone
Andrea Piergentili, Conductor
First performance - 25/07/2025
Montefiore dell'Aso (Ascoli Piceno)
This second volume of Asymmetrical Dances follows the first, published by Mulph in 2023.
The new collection includes three other short pieces for concert band (degree of difficulty 4 - 4.5), with a tonal and discursive musical language.
All the dances are intended for the study of asymmetrical times, and therefore are a useful rhythmic practice for conducting and instrument students.
Asymmetrical times (5/8, 7/8, 10/8, etc.) are metric indications consisting of combinations of beats of two and three eighth notes. It should be remembered that in these rhythmic situations the quaver always maintains the same duration, therefore the movement with three eighth notes is really a quaver longer, and must not become a triplet.
The presence of many optional instruments allows the Dances to be played even with small instrumental groups, thanks to the replacements provided in the strumentation.
The total duration of the pieces is included in nine minutes about.
