Description

One of my fav Beatles songs that was not really produced or tracked/released until the 90s well after Lennon was gone. The remaining 3 (at the time) did a special anthology release with a documentary and commentary from the living Beatles. On top Of releasing raw never heard takes of songs or remastered versions, they also decided to use technology to create 2 new Beatles songs. They worked with Yoko and obtained very rough cassettes of Lennon playing “real love” and also “free as a bird” in his house (nothing fancy he just wanted to get the ideas on tape.).

Anyways, with the help of Jeff Lynn, the 3 were able to write and track a song around lemons original ideas. They were able to make the cassettes of Lennon playing and singing sound good enough which enabled them to actually have his voice on the tracks with Paul filling in missing pieces he had to write!

Both songs were great. “Free as a bird” was probably the more popular release, but I probably like “real love” even more!

Lennon was such a special songwriter
