NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (M~G~M 4583) Out of Los Angeles, this track which was recorded at United Recording on October 10, 1967, was included in the 1968 debut solo LP by Righteous Brother, BILL MEDLEY in which included the hit single written by Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, 'Brown-Eyed Woman'. Bill Medley produced and Bill Baker arranged all of the tracks on the LP which contained a variety of pop, jazz and soul but it is one track that stands out above the rest. 'The Quest' (The Impossible Dream) gets the big and classic, Spectoresque, 'Wall Of Sound' production. The unfortunate thing about this was that the stock copies of this LP were sold only in stereo. The stereo mix was fine for the other eleven tracks on the LP but the stereo mix on 'The Quest' was horrible. The entire, gigantic music track was mixed to the the right channel, the strings were isolated on the left channel and the lead and background choir were in the center. The whole Spectoresque 'Wall Of Sound' experience was diminished and lost. BUT.....for some reason, promo copies of the LP, which are quite difficult to locate, were pressed in mono. The time that Bill Medley spent in the studio working with Spector on the Philles records releases no doubt was a big influence for him after The Righteous Brothers left Philles for M~G~M and ulimately when Medley embarked on his solo career. Hear this rare and wonderful version of 'The Quest' in all of it's monophonic glory.
