Description
Here we have Skeevo's audio edit of Black Sabbath's first home video recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon on June 10, 1978. The image is displayed in it's native aspect ratio and has been brightened a bit and reframed from the DVD rip to eliminate the empty black space around the video. Buried deep down in the overly muddy mix were some very quiet side channels that I was able boost and bring more dimension to the audio. Then I bumped up the very quiet volume and equalized the sound in an attempt to bring out whatever high end was available from the original bottom-heavy mix. Finally I was able bring Ozzy's vocal volume up, as they are strangely quiet on the video. All other instruments sound like they are from the soundboard, while Ozzy's vocals sound like they were recorded with mics picking up the concert speaker audio - very strange. Also, right before the solo for the Paranoid encore, the DVD audio changes drastically for the last 90 seconds of the video, which I have tried to match to the rest of the show as much as possible. The audio will never be perfect if the masters do not exist, but I think this effort may breath a little more life into the recording of an amazing performance by the original line-up soon before Ozzy's departure. I'll let you be the judge.
