This holiday classic was first recorded by The Quinto Sisters in 1964, and became popular when it was featured in the animated Rankin-Bass Christmas special, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," and was performed by singer and actor Burl Ives, who voiced the narrator, Sam the Snowman. The song was re-recorded for Burl Ives' Christmas album and released as a single, which recently achieved its peak position of #4 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 2020.
