Dedicated to Robert Mayes and Richard E. Tolley.
The part for solo trumpet is delivered in B-flat ánd C. The B-flat part incorporates the use of B-flat Fl: ugelhorn in the second movement, but the C part is entirely for trumpet in C for the convenience of those players who prefer the C instrument.
The composer, however, prefers the use of the B-flat flügelhorn as marked at the beginning of the second movement and where marked thereafter in the second movement only.
Therefore, the solo part may be played in any one of the following ways: 1) on B-flat trumpet and B-flat flügelhorn, in accordance with the composer’s original intentions; 2; entirely on B-flat trumpet; or 3) entirely on C trumpet
