First of a series of videos about Charlie 'Yardbird' Parker.

I have so many favourite jazz musicians, but if I had to choose my absolute favourite, I'd have to say Charlie Parker.

There so much that we can learn from Parker's music, and it has been a source of fascination to me for nearly 30 years.

It's incredible to think that we are still trying to crack the code of what made his music so amazing 70 years after it was recorded..!

This solo on 'Cool Blues' is a little gem, in my opinion. It's pretty simple, so far as Charlie parker's music goes, no fast 'double time' runs, but it's jam packed with lots of good stuff we can use to inform our own improvisations.
