Casaidh an tSúgáin - this old Irish song beautifully sung by Mairin Fahy tells us a love story, or rather a rejection of love story.

A man visits a woman who’s daughter he seeks to court. Unable to get rid of him due to his persistence, she hatches a plan to get rid of him. She asks him to help her with the casaidh (turning) of the hay rope (an tsúgáin) which was done to make the seat in old chairs. As he turned the rope longer and longer, he eventually turned it long enough until it was out the front door, where the woman eventually shut the door on him and told him not to return.
