In this Foolin' guitar lesson video I will show you how to play this Def Leppard classic note-for-note in it's entirety.

We start with the haunting acoustic guitar intro containing a very unique arpeggio picking sequence. This picking sequence can bit a little bit awkward to play and memorize so make sure you try to break it down into bite sized pieces to make everything a bit easier.

After that lengthy intro, the full band comes in with some aggressive muted power chords launching us into the heavier version of the verse. Guitarists Steve Clark and Phil Collen employ some interesting diads here to keep everything fresh and not just a bunch of standard power chords. Because of this, memorizing the exact timing and placement of these chords can be a bit of a challenge as well.

From there we will make it to the pre-chorus which contains sustained power chords under a simple melodic sequence. These two parts are recorded separately but it is possible to play them together like I teach in the lesson. Pretty simple to play actually.

The easiest part of the song to play is definitely the chorus. It uses straight power chords and other than a tight consistent rhythm, doesn't contain much of a challenge at all.

At the end of the lesson I will demonstrate a note-for-note breakdown of the guitar solo. The beginning of the guitar solo contains a lot of guitar overdubs since Steve Clark and Phil Collen are switching back and forth with soling duties. However, after everything truly kicks in the rest of the solo is played by Phil Collen.

There is a lot of cool stuff in this solo and it is a highly singable and musical statement that fits the music perfectly.

That is about all from me, I hope you guys enjoy learning this classic from probably my favorite 80's band, Def Leppard. :)

Carl..
