Description

This pleasant instrumental by Canadian pianist Frank Mills became a huge hit in 1979, but it was actually recorded in 1974. Four years later, the piece was included as the B-side of another album track that was released as a single, and a copy was mistakenly sent to a Canadian pop radio station. Thinking that the record side labels were switched, the station's program director played both sides of the single and liked the B-side instead, which was added to the station's playlist, where it became a hit. The song continued to pick up in airplay and album sales, prompting Polydor to release the album and single in the USA, and the rest is history. Music Box Dancer went all the way to #3 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in 1979 and became one of my favorite singles for that year.
