About the MONO mix
This track was recorded on some of the best recording equipment that ever existed at the old Capitol Records Studios at 5515 W. Melrose in Los Angeles, a few months before the new “Tower” opened. Whoever did the 1998 remastering of the CD, “Songs for Swingin' Lovers!” put a peak in the 450-700 range, giving it a harsh midrange bite, which I notched down in the isolated tracks. The superb transients of the strings and brass makes me believe that the engineers may have had the tape machine screaming at 30 IPS. Gotta love that vibrant high-fidelity sound of that vacuum-tube equipment of the mid-50’s!
About my STEREO mix:
The vocal was well mastered. All I added was a hint of slow stereo reverb to give continuity to the stereo image.. I panned the Piano Left and made it reverb into the Right. I gave the Orchestra a surround sound effect using delay and expanding the dynamic range. I panned the Drums Right and made them reverb into the Left. I centered the Bass but cut it by 25% via EQ.
Technical Information:
I used SpectraLayers PRO-7 to isolate the Vocals, Orchestra, Drums, Bass and Piano into 5 separate tracks. Adobe Audition 2020 was used for Dynamic Range recovery, EQ, Delay, Reverb and final mixdown. Sonic Studio’s Amarra Luxe Sound Processor was used for post EQ and upsampling. NERO 2019 Platinum used to generate the final video.
