Description
Track 10 from his eighth and final solo album “Southern Blood” released in 2017 copyright Rounder Records. It was recorded in March, 2016 at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and released a few months after his death from liver cancer. The album consists of one original song and the rest are covers of songs that held deep meaning for him throughout his life. It received universal acclaim from critics, who called it exceptional and almost perfect. It’s an impressive farewell and shows that he was still at the top of his game despite his poor health, just like so many of the old bluesmen he admired and was inspired by in his early years. His cover of “Willin’” by Little Feat’s Lowell George, in particular, has an emotional impact on me. So here’s to the greatest white blues singer who ever lived and founding member of one of America’s greatest bands, that introduced the “Southern Rock” sound to a grateful world. Written by Jackson Browne and produced by Don Was. RIP Gregory Lenoir Allman. Featuring:
Gregg Allman – Lead vocals, guitars & Hammond B-3 organ

Though Adam was a friend of mine, I did not know him well
He was alone into his distance, he was deep into his well
I could guess what he was laughin' at, but I couldn't really tell
Now the stories told that Adam jumped, but I'm hoping that he fell
Together we went traveling as we received the call
His destination, India, and I had none at all
Well, I still remember laughing with our backs up against the wall
So free of fear, we never thought that one of us might fall
I sit before my only candle, but it's so little light to find my way
Now the story unfolds before my candle
Which is shorter every hour, as it reaches for the day
But I feel just like a candle in a way
But I guess I'll get there, I wouldn't say for sure
Can't say for sure
When we parted we were still laughing, as our goodbyes were said
And I never heard from him again, as each our lives we lead
Except for once in someone else's letter that I read
Until I heard the sudden word that a friend of mine was dead
I sit before my only candle like a pilgrim sits before the wake
Now his journey appears before my candle
As a song that's growin' fainter, the harder I play
But I feel just like a candle in a way
Guess I'll get there but I wouldn't say for sure
Can't say for sure
Though Adam was a friend of mine, I did not know him long
And when I stood myself behind, I never felt so strong
Still it seems he stopped singing in the middle of his song
I sit before my only candle like a pilgrim sits before the wake
I'm holdin' out my only candle
As a song that's growin' fainter, the harder I play
But I feel just like a candle in a way
But I guess I'll get there but I wouldn't say for sure
Can't say for sure
Can't say for sure
Woo-hoo
