He co-wrote the soul song with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. From the album The Ice Man Cometh, Only The Strong Survive was the most successful single of Jerry Butler's career, reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard Black Singles Chart in 1969.
