In all seriousness though, this was just a fun, short video to make. It seemed inevitable that I would cover the Juicy Fruit commercial jingle because the song and commercials have been living in my head rent-free for the last 20 years.

I thought the commercials were brilliant because at the time they were released in the early 2000s, the company acknowledged two things. First, they wanted to do a throwback to their 1980s commercial jingle. At the same time, they wanted to acknowledge that young people will find the song hokey and stupid by having the guitar destroyed mid song in every commercial release.

For archiving and posterity purposes, I will be posting a playlist of all the commercials, and cover songs available here on YouTube.

I created the background out of newspaper, painted over in acryla gouache. I actually had it set aside for another project I was working on behind the scenes from last year.

I find it interesting how much detail went into the design of the individual gum wrappers. Maybe we can look at it in more detail in a future video?
