Yes. Potentially the most powerful word out there. More importantly, though, it’s a word of affirmation. In this case, it’s an affirmation of my adoration for the Austin trio, Khruangbin. With just a drum, guitar, bass, and a couple of wigs, I still don’t quite understand how this band does it. It’s a fairly simple set up, yet the intricacies of their music amount to a whole 'nother world. They do a swell job of interlacing psychedelic Middle Eastern/Southeast Asian influences with that undeniable disco funk.
Yes. Just as you’re thinking about how much you’re feeling Khruangbin’s groove, they take the words right from your brain in their track, “Evan Finds the Third Room.” At the beginning of their career, the band trended towards no vocals (yet another testament to their talent), but I’m elated they decided to yes. In case the positivity from all of the “yes”-ing isn’t enough, perhaps those gritty guitar solos in the middle and end will be final straws for any pent up negativity in your life. I don’t think I can sound that good even on an air guitar. In both parallel and tangent, a steadily progressing bassline plus several blends of beats equals an end-to-end, thumping jam.
Yes. Coachella goers alike are sincerely lucky that Khruangbin is on that lineup--100% guaranteed to funk your face off. I surely won’t be missing them. Also, huge shout out to Evan. I don’t know who you are, but congratulations on finding the third room, and thank you for making this gem a possibility.
