McCartney explained that the idea for "Let It Be" came to him after dreaming about his mother during a difficult time in 1968. His mother, Mary Patricia McCartney, had died of cancer in 1956 when he was just 14. Reflecting on the dream, he said, "It was so lovely to see her again. I felt truly blessed to have that experience, and it inspired me to write 'Let It Be'. In a later interview, he shared that in the dream, his mother reassured him, saying, "It’s going to be okay. Just let it be." When asked whether the phrase "Mother Mary" referred to the Virgin Mary, McCartney often replied, "People can interpret the song however they wish."
