LIFE IS BUT A DREAM, The Harptones, Paradise #101 1955
Flipside: YOU KNOW YOU’RE DOING ME WRONG – Here is another really great ballad from my music collection. It's really hard to imagine of all the great “early” songs Willie Winfield and The Harptones recorded, none of them were ever charted nationally on Billboard.
The only nationally charted song by them was in 1961, “WHAT WILL I TELL MY HEART” Companion #103. It charted for 2 weeks and reached #96. The Harptones were from Harlem and epitomize the harmonies of groups from the early 1950's. It's Willie Winfield's clear projection and satiny delivery as the lead singer that rounds out The Harptones’ emotional harmonies.
The group's backbone was the late Raoul Cita, a true talent in the purest form who always provided most of their arrangements. The group consisted of Willie Winfield, Jimmy Beckum, William Dempsey and Bill Brown.
Enjoy this really great ballad “LIFE IS BUT A DREAM” by The legendary Harptones, with the unmistakable lead voice of Willie Winfield.
