“Songbirds of the Thuringian Forest“, composed around 1885, is one of the many bravura pieces composed by the German-American cornet virtuoso Theodore Hoch. The frequent marking “echo” suggests the use of an echo cornet. This instrument, quite popular in the composer's time, has two bells, an open and a muted one, allowing to switch between sounds instantly. Made in 1981, this was the world premiere recording of the present composition.
