Mihaescu’s heavy opening chord sequence underpins his anguished recounting of the October 7th attacks that have brought so much sadness into the world. Mehakim sets this dark auditory stage for the listener early but releases us to hope with light strings midway through. Shattering the dawn
A black cloud overwhelming like the sea
The alarm alerts our eyes to the fence
warning

At first light
While our festivals were not yet over
While we loved and danced
They came on the 50th anniversary
Of our survival of the Day of Atonement
The tyrant, the predator of love, turned his face
Towards us

They hated and they slaughtered
They captured and they led away
Our sons and our daughters
To a place beyond the fence

Would God grant
And mercifully break His silence
Bring them back safely
To the arms of their own people

Thoughts rush though
Of what will be left of the fragments
of their souls the day after
Will they be as they once were?
While we prepare to receive them back
Protect them oh God

It’s hard for the mind to comprehend
Between the pain and the tears
And it’s impossible to process
While the tears fall

And after it all
After a chapter has ended
The hope of thousands of years
Will sound again in their ears
God will bring them back
But for now we remain here waiting

Until God grants it and
Breaks His silence with mercy
And brings them back safely
Into the arms of their own people
