The Song

"Midnight Rider" was Gregg Allman's signature song, describing how he continued on in the face of obstacles. He wrote the song, but shared the songwriting credit with Kim Payne, a roadie for the band who came up with the classic line, "The road goes on forever."

This first appeared on the second Allman Brothers album, Idlewild South, but it wasn't released as a single.

was ranked number 46 on Bass Player magazine's list of "The 100
Greatest Bass Players of All Time"

On November 11, 1972, Berry Oakley, 24, died in a motorcycle accident in Macon, Georgia, near the site of Duane Allman's fatal crash a year earlier. He declined immediate medical treatment, ultimately succumbing to his injuries three hours later.

Was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Allman Brothers Band in 1995.

The Album Name
The album's title comes from the band's nickname for a rustic cabin the band rented out and used for rehearsals, as well as parties.

The album was released in September 1970 but again failed to achieve significant success. Sales began to grow, however, due to over 300 shows the band put on in 1970, setting the stage for their artistic and commercial breakthrough with 1971's live follow-up album, At Fillmore East.
