Description
Like so many others, I was very saddened to hear of B.J. Thomas' passing last week, after his recent diagnosis of lung cancer. He brought so much joy to my generation, across several formats, from County, to Pop, to Gospel. His first hit "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", was one I really liked and covered several years ago, along with several other of his hits. Maybe it has something to do with my Christian upbringing, or that I'm getting closer to the end than I am the beginning, but I found myself listening to this one over and over since B.J. passed on. It's a great song, covered by many others, and I wasn't sure if I should even try to do it. It may never be regarded as one of my best tribute covers, but I can assure you it was one of the most difficult for me to even attempt. B.J. Thomas was 29-years-old and a professional singer in 1971. I'm 61, never been a pro, and trying my best to sing it in the same key. So there you have it. Rest in peace, B.J. and thanks for sharing your unique and remarkable talent with the world.
UPDATE: I'm not going to make a new video, but I actually re-recorded this one a couple of days later and prefer this version. My first effort was sincere, but my voice just wasn't 100%. I think this one sounds better, so if you have the time, please give it a listen and see if you agree: http://www.jeffmcneal.com/audio/Mighty_Clouds_Of_Joy.mp3 Cheers.
