Investigations are optional quests players may opt to partake due to promises of greater and better loot from the large monster they encountered over the course of the story.
Having stricter clearing conditions marks up the difficulty of these quests, but so does the quality of the rewards they offer upon completion.
Hence, participating in them is a recommended way of farming monster materials - either for their armor or weapons.
