Azan is the name of the sweetest sound in the world — it is the perception of millions of people, Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Azan has special significance in Islam. Listening to the call to prayer is also of special importance. It is also sunnat for the listener to answer the call to prayer orally. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘When you hear the call to prayer, you will say the same thing as the muezzin.’
(Bukhari, Hadith: 611)

Method of answering the call to prayer: The method of answering the call to prayer is that after the muezzin stops saying each sentence, the listener will say the same sentence himself. But when the muezzin says ‘Haiyya Alas Salah’ and ‘Haiyya Alal Falah’, the listener will say ‘La Hawla wa La Kuwata Illa Billah’. This is pure opinion. (Muslim, Hadith: 365)
