“O Lord, give thy Holy Spirit” is a motet by Thomas Tallis, likely composed during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. It's a setting of a text from the Anglican liturgy, known for its four-voice homophonic texture and is one of Tallis’ most beloved works. The piece showcases Tallis’ ability to thrive in the changing religious landscape of England, as he served under both Catholic and Protestant monarchs.
St. Alfege Church in Greenwich features a stained glass window depicting the renowned composer Thomas Tallis, who is buried in the church's crypt. The window was added during renovations after the church was damaged in 1941. Tallis, known as the “Father of English Church Music,” served as organist at the church during the reigns of four Tudor monarchs.
