Witness a historic moment as the stunning new Spirit of Tasmania IV makes a rare and breathtaking stop in Perth on its epic journey to Tasmania. This video captures the excitement, detail, and sheer scale of one of Australia’s most anticipated ferries.

About the Vessel
Built in 2024 by Rauma Marine Constructions in Finland, the Spirit of Tasmania IV is a state-of-the-art ro-ro passenger ferry designed to transform Bass Strait crossings

Length: 212 m

Gross Tonnage: ~48,000 GT

Passenger Capacity: 1,800

Lane Metres (Vehicle Space): ~4,098 m — enough for approximately 600 cars

Propulsion: Four Wärtsilä 46DF LNG engines, giving it a service speed of around 26 knots

Not only is it significantly larger than its predecessors (Spirit I & II), but it also offers 43% more passenger capacity and 39% more freight space, plus new pet-friendly cabins, lounges, cinemas, bars, and more to elevate the travel experience

Why This Moment Matters

With final fit-out and crew training set to occur in Hobart in late August, this Perth stop marks the start of the vessel’s operational journey

Devonport’s new berths are being fast-tracked for October 2026, ensuring top-tier infrastructure will be ready for the new vessels
