Description
This is the 1934 78 RPM recording by Ray Noble's orchestra, playing this fox trot sung by Al Bowlly.
No one would ever remember this song so long removed from its recording but for the fact it was used as the closing theme for Jack Nicholson's movie THE SHINING. For that reason, it is a very collectible and expensive 78 you'll pay around $100 for.
It was only released in British-affiliated countries, so you will find it on the HMV, or foreign Victor HIS MASTER'S VOICE label, record number B6461.
It is played on a Victor III phonograph from 1909, though the sort of machines that would have been around when this was made were the upright type phonographs. But this is how it would have sounded in the day, removed from today's equipment.
MIDNIGHT, THE STARS, AND YOU
Midnight, with the stars and you...
Midnight, and a rendezvous....
Your eyes held a message tender,
Saying, "I surrender all my love to you."
Midnight brought us sweet romance...
I know all my whole life through,
I'll be remembering you,
Whatever else I do...
Midnight with the stars and you...
