Description
This footage was recorded at the SEOUL ARTS CENTER in Seoul, Korea in 2004. Robin performs "A Song for Jennie," a composition inspired by her grandmother's journey to America. Jennie Spielberg emigrated to the US in May 1929 from Russia to join her husband, Rubin, who emigrated in 1923. Rubin Spielberg was employed as a flutist by the NBC Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Arturo Toscanini and the Metropolitan Opera House Orchestra. His brother, Herman, was a violinist with those same orchestras.Jennie was pregnant at the time Rubin left for America. She reunited with him in 1929 with their 6-year old son after a long journey. The subtitle to this piece is "We're Almost There" and it first appears on Robin's SONGS OF THE SPIRIT album (1996) and was re-recorded in 2005 on MEMORIES OF UTOPIA, both available on Amazon and iTunes.
