On June 5th, the pop star took to Instagram to share the backstory of the track, which many fans speculated was aimed at one of her exes. But Sabrina set the record straight. According to her, “Manchild” wasn’t part of some master plan — it was written “on a random Tuesday,” shortly after she had wrapped her sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet.

Collaborating with songwriter Amy Allen and famed producer Jack Antonoff, she says that unplanned session ended up becoming one of the best days of her life. The track was fun to write, she explained, and turned into something deeply personal — a sort of soundtrack for the emotional chaos of young adulthood.

In her own words, Sabrina described the song as “the embodiment of a loving eye roll,” adding that it feels like “a never-ending road trip in the summer.” That’s exactly why she wanted fans to have it now — just in time to blast it with the windows down all summer long.

And while she didn’t name any names, many fans couldn’t help but notice the timing and lyrical clues. Sabrina was most recently linked to Irish actor Barry Keoghan. The two were first spotted together in December 2023, and their relationship seemed to bloom over the course of the next year. Keoghan even starred as the romantic lead in Sabrina’s “Please Please Please” music video. But by December 2024, sources confirmed they had taken a break — reportedly to focus on their careers.

Fans have been dissecting the lyrics of “Manchild,” especially the biting lines delivered over upbeat melodies, like:
“Manchild, why you always come a-runnin' to me? / F--- my life, won't you let an innocent woman be? / Never heard of self-care / Half your brain just ain't there…”

These lines struck a chord — with one commenter even joking that Sabrina’s diss tracks go harder than most rappers.

Still, despite the breakup rumors and social media speculation, Sabrina never pointed a finger. Instead, she ended her post with a playful jab: “Thank you men for testing me!!” — a cheeky nod to the heartbreak and confusion that helped inspire the song.

Sabrina has also been linked to Shawn Mendes in the past, though she clarified they were never actually dating, even after the two were spotted out together in 2023.

Now, with “Manchild” officially released and its music video set to premiere on June 6, Sabrina is letting the music speak for itself — catchy, clever, and just cathartic enough to scream along to.
