Description
'Just Because You Can' is an atmospheric tale of lost love and new beginnings, shot in the beautiful landscapes of Picton NSW. The lyrics weave an intoxicating narrative as the protagonist faces letting go of her past, navigating tumultuous relationship dynamics and the realisation she has been taken for a fool. Directed by Denis Scholsem, the film clip pays homage to the iconic cinema of the 60s, David Lynch and spaghetti western, diving deeper into the Salarymen cinematic universe and the evocative nature of the track. Vocalist Renee de la Motte croons across the track evoking a sense of bittersweet relief, as she transitions from moody verses to soaring anthemic choruses. The driving rhythm section combines dancier elements of acts like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, with the alternative streak of contemporary favourites Arcade Fire. Meanwhile, the vocal melodies reflect the indie pop sensibilities of acts like Telenova and Julia Jacklin, weaving together a unique tapestry of influences sprinkled with that signature Salarymen magic.

Lyrics:
Burned up, let down
All your dreams are on the ground
No friends, sold out
Maybe you should leave this town
I know you see
Everything we could have been
The hard truths
They never stop now
I could never be the one to make you understand
Everything you lost, it wasn’t worth it in the end
You were only playing with me just because you can
What’s it gonna take for you to say you’re wrong
When I’m leaving, walking out your door
Cashed up, low brow
Showin’ off and on the prowl
Don’t look desperate
There’s a story goin' round
But you don’t see
Nothing ever comes for free
The burden
Is weighing you down
I could never be the one to make you understand
Everything you lost, it wasn’t worth it in the end
You were only playing with me just because you can
What’s it gonna take for you to say you’re wrong
When I’m leaving, walking out your door
