Description
Even far off into Joplin's 2nd of many temporary splits between his longtime publisher John Stark, his fame continued to spread throughout the Midwest with a rise in popularity towards Ragtime, paving his way towards a number of collaborative works with other musicians & songwriters who sought out his name. And as with all musical genres, Ragtime would begin to branch out into different sub-areas such as Ragtime Waltzes & Songs, leading to experimentation in how the new syncopated sensation spreading across America could be reworked into classical senses.
One great example of this is Henry Jackson's collaborative work with Joplin, "Sarah Dear," an affectionate love song (& perhaps a proposal as indicated in the lyrical content) dedicated to a Miss Sarah Jarrett, presumably Jackson's companion at the time. A soft blend of syncopation with a common chorus structure seen throughout the late 1880s and up come together to form what may be known as Joplin's most "mellow" song-writer collaborations throughout his career. Of course with a number of other notable collaborations including "When Your Hair is Like the Snow" (1907) & "Lovin' Babe" (1911)
