Description
Swiper, no swiping!
Another video of a performance from the works of Scott Joplin! This one is a "cakewalk"- an African-American dance that was originally conceived to mock the elaborate balls of white plantation owners but later become a stand-alone style. The genre is a precursor to ragtime, and they both have much in common (to the point where I can't distinguish much difference between the two, at least from a pianistic perspective).
"Swipesy Cakewalk" is actually a collaborative work, with the majority of the piece being written by another pianist named Arthur Marshall. Joplin composed the trio (the third section of the piece) and Marshall composed the rest.
Hope you enjoy!
