"Silent Night, Holy Night" ('Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht!') was written by Joseph Mohr for Christmas 1818, while he was assistant clergyman at Laufen, near Salzburg.
The tune is 'Stille Nacht' by German composer Franz Gruber which he wrote on Christmas Eve, 1818 for himself and Joseph Mohr to perform that night.
It is performed here by the Bach Choir and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
