Track 1 from their fourth album “Stand!” released in 1969 copyright Epic Records. It was recorded at Pacific High Recording Studios in San Francisco. Their best-selling studio release, it received excellent reviews and reached No. 13 on the Billboard chart, where it stayed for two years. "Everyday People" was their first No. 1 hit. Larry Graham introduced the “slap” bass technique on that song and revolutionized the way electric bass could be played for maximum funk effect. The success of this album led to their appearance at the Woodstock Music & Art Fair and their performance was considered one of the best at the festival. The album achieved Gold status the same year and was certified Platinum in 1986. In 2015 it was deemed culturally significant by the Library of Congress and was added to the National Recording Registry. Written and produced by Sly Stone. RIP Cynthia Robinson & Sylvester Stewart. (Stand) in the end you'll still be you
(One that's done all the things you set out to do)
(Stand) there's a cross for you to bear
(Things to go through if you're goin' anywhere)
(Stand) for the things you know are right
(It's the truth that the truth makes them so uptight)
(Stand) all the things you want are real
(You have you to complete and there is no deal)
(Stand. stand, stand) everybody stand, yeah
(Stand. stand, stand)
(Stand) you've been sitting much too long
(There's a permanent crease in your right and wrong)
(Stand) there's a midget standing tall
(And the giant beside him about to fall)
(Stand. stand, stand)
(Stand. stand, stand)
(Stand) they will try to make you crawl
(And they know what you're sayin' makes sense and all)
(Stand) don't you know that you are free
(Well, at least in your mind if you want to be) everybody
(Stand, stand)
(Stand)
(Stand)
(Stand)
(Stand)
