Running through the heart of Beijing is the Central Axis, a north-south line that bisects the city from the centuries-old Yongding Gate in the south all the way to the Olympic Park built for the 2008 Games. In between you’ll encounter some of the city’s most famous attractions, such as the vast Palace Museum and the well-preserved Bell and Drum Towers.
