Written by my friend Jean Claude Thibaud and produced by me in iMovie this is a fifty minute broad sweep documentary on the story behind the German World War II hit song from a poem by Hans Leip, with music by Norbert Schultze, and sung by Lale Andersen. The story starts before the First World War (it's a Long Way to Tipperary) and ends at the antiwar movement in the seventies, featuring Marlene Dietrich. My thanks to all those who posted material on the wars, Berlin in the thirties, German and Irish artists from the period.
