Description
The Sandpipers were an American easy listening trio who carved a niche in 1960s folk rock with their vocals and innovative arrangements of international ballads and pop standards. They are best remembered for their cover version of "Guantanamera", which became a transatlantic top 10 hit in 1966.
Michael Piano left the group and was replaced in turn by Michael Brady (Left in the video).
Michael Brady joined the popular band, and began touring all over the world with such hits as “Guantanamera” in 1970s.
"Guantanamera" charted in the United States in September 1966 and in the United Kingdom the following month, and remains the group's biggest hit, earning 1967 Grammy Award nominations for Best Performance by a Vocal Group and Best Contemporary Group Performance, plus gold record awards for the single and the album.

Guantanamera
Guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera
Guajira guantanamera
Yo soy un hombre sincero
De donde crece la palma
Yo soy un hombre sincero
De donde crece la palma
Y antes de morirme quiero
Echar mis versos del alma
Guantanamera
Guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera
Guajira guantanamera
Mi verso es de un verde claro
Y de un carmín encendido
Mi verso es de un verde claro
Y de un carmín encendido
Mi verso es un ciervo herido
Que busca en el monte amparo
The words mean: I am a truthful man
From the land of the palm trees
And before dying, I want to share the poems of my soul
My verses are soft green
My poems are also flaming red
My poems are like a wounded fawn
Seeking refuge in the forest
The last verse says: Con los pobres de la tierra
With the poor people of this earth
I want to share my fate
The streams of the mountain
Pleases me more than the sea
Guantanamera
Guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera
Guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera
Guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera
Guajira guantanamera
Guantanamera
Guajira guantanamera
