Description
Thomas Tallis - Jam lucis orto sidere - Enrico Presti, organ
Enrico Presti 'live' at Leonhardskirche Basel, 2015.
"As he did live, I know anche did he die, in mild and quiet sort (O happy man!); Full oft to God for mercy did he cry, wherefore he lives, let death do what it can."
This epitaph closes the existence quiet and humble of one of the greatest English composers of the Renaissance period. He lived in full of the religious schism and tried, with some success, to meet the needs of the newly formed Anglican liturgy. Under Mary Stuart wrote in Latin, several hymns and masses including this version of the hymn Jam lucis orto sidere (Already arose the morning star).
