Description
Tone poem for large orchestra. Czech Philharmonic, conducted by Karel Sejna, recorded 1966. The subject is a climb into the magnificent Tatra mountains - like a miniature Alpine symphony. First the climb, with spectacular views. Then the clouds build up until a furious storm rages with flashes of lightning. Then peace descends when the setting sun gilds the mountain summits, and the evening village bells sound a clear night sky. (the bumpy record surface is only for the first 20 seconds).
Novak's style is very much that of the romanticist. If you enjoy this music, there are some beautiful new compilations available on CD.
The pictures are all from the Tatras, except for a few of the storms.
