Description
The LEGEND of WILL POWERS...
Dedicated to the Memory of Andy Cavaliere, who had a massive hand during the conception of this album.
Lynn Goldsmith is one of the world's most renowned Rock Photographers. Her work in the 70s and 80s are ICONIC to say the least, capturing stills of LEGENDS... to many to mention here...
Upon receiving instructions from Chris Blackwell to go down to the Bahamas in order to shoot Master Palmer, Lady Faithfull and Master Cocker... she ends up cutting an ALBUM with initial encouragement from Master Palmer, at the infamous 'Compass Point Studios'. A fan of Self-Help books herself, she adopts this fictional persona... a Self-Help Guru - Will Powers...The album sees a little help from many famous friends... Master Winwood, Nile Rodgers, Sting, Lady Simon, Master Rundgren, Sly & Robbie, Master Sanborn & soo many others... Tracks like "Kissing with Confidence" and "Adventures in Success" became massive Global hits...
In the early 1980s, Master Winwood was heavily involved with a TRIO of SYNTH masterpieces... "Broken English", Talking Back to the Night" & "Dancing For Mental Health"... For the latter, on top of his involvement with all sorts of "SYNTH" sounds, Master Winwood was at it from the compositional side as well, writing together with Nile Rodgers, Sting and especially heavily composing with journalist/lyricist Jacob Brackman, on most of the tracks for the album...
Regarding Master Winwood's involvement in the album, Goldsmith states: " Steve Winwood really hadn’t played with others in such a long time and I thought, “He should work with Nile.” When I called up Nile and said Steve Winwood was in, he said: “I’m there.” Steve played on every track. Blackwell wanted me to help bring Steve out, as he was way out in the countryside with his family. He had made Arc of a Diver pretty much in isolation. That transition was really important for Winwood, as he realised how much he enjoyed playing with other talented musicians."
On the track, Master Sanborn is running wild through the multiple layers of SYNTH goodness created by Master Winwood, with Sting on the Bass.
A truly unique CONCEPT album worthy of further research...
