When writing songs for Petula Clark's 1965 album, "I Know a Place", Tony Hatch ran out of ideas ... so Petula herself came up with this melody. Tony wrote the words, and "You're the One" became a UK #23 hit for her when released as a single. But The Vogues' version did even better in the USA,. After a re-release, it made it to #4.
